How do I programme my Freesat remote to control my TV?

You can use your Freesat remote control to turn your TV on and off, and to control the TV volume.

To do so, your Freesat remote control needs to discover which brand of TV you have.

Turn your Box and TV on.
Set the volume of your Box to maximum (you might want to turn down your TV’s volume a bit first).
Press and hold both the Red button (this is not the standby or record button) and AD button on your Freesat remote control for three seconds then release the buttons. The LED will light up and stay on to show that the remote is ready to be programmed.
The remote control contains a list of different TV remote control signal codes. Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to go through the list. When your TV turns off, you have found the right code.
Press the OK button to tell the remote to save this code.

How do I reset my Freesat remote control?

Accepted Answer

To reset your remote control to it's default set-up, follow these steps:

1. Press and hold the red button (this is not the standby or record button) and AD buttons on your Freesat remote control for three seconds.

2. Then press and hold the Home button. The LED will blink once.

3. Finally press and hold the red button (this is not the standby or record button) for five seconds. The LED will blink five times to confirm the remote control has removed the existing TV code and reset to default set-up.

My remote control isn't working with my set top box

Accepted Answer

If you are facing this issue, there are a few things we recommend you check:

Are the batteries in the remote control new and working? Have they been inserted the right way up? Perhaps try them of a separate remote to see if they need replacing. When you press a button on the remote, does a red light flicker on it? Does the light on the box flicker when you press a button on the remote?

Ensure nothing is blocking the receiver on the Set Top Box as if there are books or furniture in front of the box, then the signal won’t get through.

How can I stop my remote clashing with other devices?

Accepted Answer

If you find that your remote control inadvertently controls other devices with an infrared receiver in your home, then you can reprogram your remote to a different frequency to prevent this from happening.

How to change the frequency of your remote control

1 - Press and hold the red colour button and the AD buttons on your Freesat remote control for three seconds then release the buttons. The LED will light up and stay on to show that the remote is ready to be programmed.

2 - Press HOME on your remote control

3 - There are 6 frequency codes available to programme your Freesat remote to. Press and release the number button for the frequency you wish to set (1 to 6), note that code 1 is the default set-up.

4 - The TV will then turn off to confirm that the code has been set.

5 - Press the OK button on your remote control to save this code.

If you experience interference with a code that you have selected, try another until you get the right set-up for you and your device.

Why does my Text button not work on my remote control?

The Teletext information service on analogue and digital television was discontinued across the UK on 16 December 2019. Limited services including holidays, racing and bookmaking and the subtitles on analogue channels remain available on some BBC platforms but this is not supported by Freesat.
