Using the Freesat App

Recording from the Freesat App

If you have a smart Freesat set-top box you can use the Freesat App to record your favourite programmes on the go. You can also manage your existing recordings and bookmark On Demand programmes.

To remote record, you need to create a Freesat ID and pair it with your Freesat box. To get a Freesat ID, visit freesat.co.uk/id, and from there it's a few easy steps to get up and running (you'll also need the unique code from your Freesat box - this can be found by selecting Settings and then 'Freesat ID').

To remote record, you need one of the following boxes:
HUMAX HB-1000S/1100S Freesat HD box - (you'll need to connect an external hard drive via USB for recordings)
HUMAX HDR-1000S/1010S/1100S Freesat+ HD box (500GB, 1TB and 2TB versions)

How do I set a programme to record?

You can record a single episode or a whole series by tapping a programme and selecting 'record'.

I already have a Freesat ID - why can't I remote record from the Freesat App?

Firstly, make sure that you’re logged in to your Freesat ID on the app by tapping the Settings icon in the top right corner.

Check that your Freesat box is paired with your Freesat ID by choosing 'Settings' then 'Freesat ID' on your box. If you're not already paired, you can get a unique code from the Freesat box. To pair your box, just log in to your Freesat ID account at freesat.co.uk/id and enter this code.

To remote record, you need one of the following boxes:
HUMAX HB-1000S/1100S Freesat HD box - (you'll need to connect an external hard drive via USB for recordings)
HUMAX HDR-1000S/1010S/1100S Freesat+ HD box (500GB, 1TB and 2TB versions)

Remote recording failure

Recordings may take up to 30 minutes to be sent to your box, so make sure you send them in good time before the programme starts.

Please make sure you have deleted any failed recordings from your box as they may cause problems when sending recording requests from your Freesat App.

If you are logged in and you’ve paired your box, check that your box is switched on at home and isn't in power saving mode (as this may affect recordings). If you’re going to be away from home and would still like to remote record, make sure you leave the box switched on.

If you are paired with more than one Freesat box, your recordings may have been sent to the wrong box - your recordings will automatically be sent to your Default Box. To check which is your Default Box, log in to your Freesat ID and choose 'My Freesat box.' Select the box you wish to send your recordings to and then select 'Save changes'.

Managing recordings out of the home

Once you have a Freesat ID and have paired your box to the Freesat App, just go to your saved items section to find, edit and delete programmes. Deleting a programme can take up to 30 minutes.

Managing my Saved Items

It's just as easy to manage your saved items. Simply select edit and choose which programmes you want to keep or delete.

My recordings say they are deleting soon. Why?

Fear not - the programmes shown in 'Deleting Soon' on the Freesat App will not be removed from your Freesat box. To see this list, go to Recordings on your Freesat box and choose the Deleting Soon section.

Can I record programmes from On Demand?

On Demand programmes cannot be downloaded or recorded.

Can I use the app while on 3G or 4G?

You can use the app as a TV Guide and set up and manage your recordings using a 3G or 4G connection. Remote control is not possible via 3G or 4G, as your phone or tablet needs to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your box.

If you are using the app somewhere where the internet connection is unreliable (for example on a train) you may find a delay in updates to the service, particularly programme images.

If you have a data limit as part of your mobile contract, we suggest you keep an eye on your data usage.
