Q: How do I find programmes by genre?

Pressing the LIST button on your remote control will display a menu of channel genres including Entertainment, Lifestyle, Children and News & Sport. Selecting a genre will display all the channels that have been placed under that category. You can go back to the full channel list by selecting All Channels at the top of the menu. If there are particular channels that you love to watch you may want to use our Favourite Channels</a> feature to find these more quickly.

Q: Can I hide channels?

As part of our parental control settings you can choose to hide channels. Hidden channels will no longer be seen within the TV Guide. Any recordings of content broadcast on these channels will also be hidden in the Recordings section. To hide a channel simply go to Freesat Channels section under Settings, you will then be prompted to enter your pin code. Select Hide Channels and then Edit Hidden Channels. You'll need to select the channel(s) you want to hide within the channel list shown on screen (which will then be marked with a X) and press BACK when you’re done. To reinstate channels that you have hidden, access the list as described above and click on the hidden channel to remove the X.

Can I go backward on the TV Guide?

If you have a Freesat 4K recordable Set Top Box, the Backwards Guide functionality will allow you to scroll through the TV Guide on your Set Top Box for the past 7 days and in some cases, watch a programme that you’ve missed.

To search the Backwards Guide simply scroll to the left from the TV Guide using the left arrow button on your remote. Any programme that is blue and marked with a play button is available to watch by selecting the programme and pressing OK and then choosing Watch Now from the action menu.

Your Set Top Box will need to be connected to the internet to use this service.

How can I access Non-Freesat mode?

Choose this mode only if you wish to watch free to air satellite channels that are not included within Freesat’s channel listings.

It is important to note that by entering Manual Mode you will lose access to Freesat features such as the TV Guide, Record, Time-shift, Reminders, Recommendations and On Demand services.

You can switch back to Freesat mode at any time by selecting the Back to Freesat option from the Home menu.

Question 5

Have the BBC Sport and BBC News apps been removed?

As of 16th November 2020, the BBC Sport and BBC News TV apps (UK and International) are no longer available on your Freesat Set Top Box. You can still keep up with all the latest news headlines and stories by heading to BBC News section on BBC iPlayer or the BBC News website and app for International news.

You can also watch live Sports on BBC iPlayer and catch up with all the best sport programmes.

This change doesn't affect the BBC News and BBC Sport website and mobile apps, which continue to operate on the web, phone and tablet.

Please Note: This is across all Freesat STBs including Humax & Manhattan.

Why does Freesat have On Demand players that need a paid subscription?

We’re always looking to add new content partners to Freesat (especially when they’re free!) to offer our customers a single platform where they can access all their favourite On Demand content. Where a service offers great programmes at a cost, we’d rather give customers the choice to watch them if they’d like to.
