Change in TV schedules to pay respects to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh

It’s with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. To mark the life of this remarkable man, regular TV schedules will be paused to air tributes to the late Prince.

It was confirmed this morning by Buckingham Palace that Prince Philip had passed away at the age of 99.

To honour the late Prince, the TV schedule will change in the following ways:

Tributes on BBC:

  • Special coverage across all BBC networks until 6pm

Tributes on ITV:

  • Dedicated news coverage about Prince Philip’s life and contribution to the monarchy and British history on ITV until 5pm

  • Prince Philip: Duke of Edinburgh will air on ITV at 5pm. Narrated by James Mates, the programme uses personal testimony and archive footage to look back at Prince Philip’s life and legacy.

  • ITV’s regional and national news will air at 6pm with continued updates on the latest developments and the reaction and impact of the Prince’s death.

  • Prince Philip, Fondly Remembered will air on ITV at 7pm to celebrate Prince Philip’s life and legacy, with Julie Etchingham and Phillip Schofield talking to those who knew the Prince best.

  • Special documentary, Prince Philip: A Royal Life, will air on ITV at 9pm and will feature ITV News royal editor Chris Ship who will tell the story of the Duke of Edinburgh.

  • An extended ITV News at Ten will air as usual at 10pm.

Tributes on Channel 4:

  • An obituary for Prince Philip entitled His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh will air at 4pm on Channel 4.

  • Channel 4 News at 6pm has also been extended by a half hour, with a 90-minute special entitled HRH The Duke of Edinburgh – A Tribute

Tributes on Channel 5:

  • Channel 5 will be broadcasting a two-hour news special tonight at 5pm with special programming running throughout the day.

Due to these changed, much of the regular evening programming on TV has been removed from the schedule, including:

Paused ITV:

  • Emmerdale

  • Coronation Street

  • A Touch of Frost

Paused on Channel 4:

  • A New Life in the Sun

  • Food Unwrapped

We expect there to be continuous changes to the schedule. Please check our TV Guide for the most up to date listings and updates.

Our thoughts go out to Her Majesty The Queen and The Royal Family at this sad time.
