Change in TV schedules to pay respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

It was confirmed on Thursday 8th September 2022 by Buckingham Palace that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has passed away at the age of 96.

It was announced by Buckingham Palace on Thursday 8th September that The Queen was under medical supervision at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, with The Queen’s closest family gathering to be with her for her final hours. 

The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

The Queen celebrated her Platinum Jubilee in June after 70 years on the throne, making her the longest reigning monarch to date. Her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, passed away on the 9th April 2021 at the age of 99.  

How to watch HM Queen Elizabeth II‘s funeral 

It has been announced that Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral will take place on Monday 19th September at Westminster Abbey. The day of the late Queen’s funeral has also been marked as an official bank holiday in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Not only will around 2,000 people be attending the funeral, but millions across the world will be watching on TV.  

The service will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC News on Monday 19th September from 8am, and will also be available to stream via BBC iPlayer. It will be followed by The One Show: Our Queen Remembered at 6:30pm and a special programme The State Funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II: Events of the Day at 8:30pm.  

There will also be live, uninterrupted coverage all day on ITV, ITVX and all of ITV’s digital channels, including STV and STV Player. The coverage will be proceeded by Good Morning Britain with a preview of the funeral, followed by a documentary that gives a closer look at the 10-day lead-up to the historic event.  

While the funeral itself will take place at 11am, broadcasts will run all day from 8am on BBC and 9:30am on ITV.  

The night before, on Sunday 18th September, a moment of silence will be observed at 8pm on most broadcasting channels, including BBC One, ITV, STV and Channel 5.
