Everything you need to know before you watch Vigil

Get ready for the most anticipated thriller drama of the year this Bank Holiday weekend over on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, as we get introduced to an epic story of mystery and intrigue, including unexplainable deaths and disappearances. Everyone’s talking about Vigil.  

Episode one is coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer on 29th August at 9pm, and we’re getting treated to episode two a week early on 30th August at 9pm. After that, Vigil will premiere weekly on both BBC One and BBC iPlayer every Sunday.

There’s nothing like Vigil on TV

While we have seen plenty of drama and thriller shows from the BBC, and the show does come from the same team who made the beloved Line of Duty, there’s nothing quite like Vigil. It’s totally unique and will leave surprises for you at every turn.

With six episodes on the way, Vigil was filmed in Scotland, and follows the story of an investigation into the mysterious death of a crew member onboard the Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil. However the UK’s nuclear deterrent must remain unbroken, which means Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) will have to conduct her investigation on board the submarine while still on patrol. But Silva soon discovers something else that shadows her inquiry...

Who will be in the brand new thriller drama Vigil on BBC One, and where have you seen them before?

- Suranne Jones will play Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva.  

  • Previously played Gemma Foster in Doctor Foster

- Shaun Evans will play Eliot Grover. 

  • Previously played Inspector Morse on Endeavour. 

- Martin Compston will play Craig Burke. 

  • You may know him as DS Steve Arnot from Line of Duty! 

- Rose Leslie will play Kirsten Longacre. 

  • You may know her as Ygritte from HBO series Game of Thrones.

But Leslie isn’t the only GoT star to grace the screen in Vigil, joining her is Stephen Dillane, who played Stannis Baratheon and Daniel Portman who portrayed Podrick in the fantasy series. In other words, Vigil in uniting some of our favourite actors in one place, so it’s guaranteed to be a hit.
