If you're having trouble with the Freesat mobile app, try the steps below to get things working again.
1. Check your device is compatible
The Freesat app works on:
- Android phones and tablets running Android 5.0 or later
- iPhones and iPads running iOS 13 or later
2. Check your internet connection
You’ll need a minimum internet speed of 10 Mbps, either through mobile data or Wi-Fi.
To connect your device to Wi-Fi:
- Make sure your router is online and nearby
On iOS (iPhone or iPad):
- Make sure your router is online and nearby
- Go to Settings, then tap Wi-Fi
- Choose your network and tap it (a blue tick will show it’s selected)
- Enter the password if asked
- Turn on Auto-Join if you want your device to connect automatically next time
On Android:
- Open the Settings app
- Tap Connections or Network & Internet, then Wi-Fi
- Choose your network and enter the password if prompted
If these steps don’t match your device, check the manufacturer’s website or support pages for help.
3. Make sure the app is up to date
Keeping the app updated helps it run smoothly. You can find the latest version in the App Store for iOS or the Google Play Store for Android.
To make things easier, you can turn on automatic updates in your device settings. That way, you’ll get the latest version without needing to check manually.
4. Update the players
The Freesat app links to other players like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, My5 and UKTV Play. Make sure these apps are also up to date, you’ll find them in the App Store or Google Play Store.
Automatic updates will help here too. If enabled, your device will let you know when updates are available.
5. Reinstall the apps
If you're still having issues, try reinstalling the Freesat app and the associated players.
- First, uninstall the Freesat app and any player apps you’ve installed
- Then download the Freesat app again from the App Store or Google Play Store
- Follow the setup steps so we can tailor your experience based on your location
- The app will suggest which players to install, so you can access catch-up content easily
- Make sure you're signed into each player app so everything links up properly
