Getting Started with Freesat

Can I get Freesat in my area?

Yes, you can! Freesat is delivered via satellite, which means it’s available throughout the UK. All you need is a satellite dish installed at your property. If you already have one, you’ll be ready to enjoy Freesat in no time.

A small number of homes may not be able to receive Freesat if the dish can’t be positioned to get a clear signal. A professional satellite installer can advise you on this. If you live in a rented property, conservation area or listed building, there may be restrictions on installing satellite equipment, so it’s best to check with your landlord or local council first.

Can I use Freesat without a Smart TV?

Absolutely. A Freesat set top box is a standalone device that works with most TVs. You just need:

  • A satellite cable to connect to the box
  • An HDMI cable to link the box to your TV

Most modern TVs have an HDMI port, but it’s worth checking before you buy.

How easy is it to switch to Freesat?

Switching is simple, especially if you already have a satellite dish. Even if it hasn’t been used in a while, just plug the satellite cables into the back of a Freesat box and you’re good to go.

If you don’t have a dish yet, you’ll need to have one installed before using the service. Installation services are widely available online. If you’re renting, be sure to get permission from your landlord first.
