Die Hard (1988)
Friday 5th December, Film4 at 9pm
With the holiday season upon us, it’s time to revisit everyone’s favourite festive debate: Is Die Hard a Christmas movie or not? This brilliant action-thriller follows tough-as-nails NYPD cop John McClane (Bruce Willis), who rocks up to LA for the holidays to visit his estranged wife. When he arrives at her office Christmas party in a massive high-rise, the whole shindig is rudely interrupted by a seriously smooth German villain, Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), and his crew. Strap in for a wild ride that sets the benchmark for all action films since. Yippee-ki-yay, mate!
Knives Out (2019)
Saturday 6th December, Channel 4 at 10:05pm
Right, so what happens when a mega-rich, famously dysfunctional American family gathers in a creaky old mansion for the patriarch's 85th birthday? You guessed it: he turns up dead the next morning. Enter Daniel Craig, ditching Sherlock Holmes’ deerstalker and pipe for a glorious Southern drawl and a knack for sniffing out foul play. It’s a witty, twisty, old-school whodunnit with a cast absolutely packed to the rafters - a modern murder mystery classic!
Body Double (1984)
Sunday 7th December, Talking Pictures TV at 9:45pm
When a struggling, slightly creepy actor (Craig Wasson) ends up house-sitting a ridiculously plush Hollywood Hills pad, his obsession with his next-door neighbour thrusts him into the centre of a chaotic murder investigation. This is pure, unadulterated Brian De Palma - a bonkers, stylish neo-noir thriller stuffed with glorious 80s excess, a killer soundtrack, and more Hitchcock homage than you can shake a stick at. Be warned, it’s all delightfully outrageous!
The King’s Man (2021)
Monday 8th December, Film4 at 9pm
The King's Man whisks you back to the early 1900s, where Ralph Fiennes brings suave, stiff-upper-lip charm to a spy adventure brimming with well-dressed heroes, dastardly villains and a dash of very British wit. Expect explosive set-pieces, sharp suits and a cheeky origin story that shows how the world’s most mannerly secret service first kicked off - with a fair bit of sword-swinging along the way!
Meet the Fockers (2004)
Tuesday 9th December, Film4 at 11:05pm
When Greg Focker’s parents meet his fiancée’s strait-laced family, you just know things are bound to go spectacularly wrong. Ben Stiller returns as the eternally frazzled groom-to-be, trying - and failing - to keep the peace as Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman breeze in as his wonderfully uninhibited mum and dad. A warm, cheeky comedy bursting with family chaos, accidental oversharing and more toe-curling moments than you can shake a fondue fork at - and yes, the cats back too!
All Is True (2018)
Wednesday 10th December, BBC Two at 11pm
When the world’s most famous playwright finally packs up his quill and heads home, life in Stratford turns out to be far messier than any of his tragedies. Kenneth Branagh slips into the role of an ageing, slightly weary Shakespeare trying to make peace with his family, his legacy and a few long-buried secrets. A gentle, thoughtful drama laced with warmth, wit and beautiful period detail. Stage and screen heavyweights Judi Dench and Ian McKellen chew up the scenery in supporting roles.
Boston Strangler (2023)
Thursday 11th December, Film4 at 9pm
A city shaken by a series of brutal murders becomes the backdrop for two intrepid reporters who won’t be pushed aside. Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon take the lead as sharp, relentless journalists fighting newsroom sceptics, police stonewalling and a killer who seems to stay one step ahead. A tense, atmospheric thriller packed with smoky newsrooms, late-night leads and the unsettling realisation that the truth is far murkier - and far more dangerous - than anyone expected.
