How do I access Audio Descriptions on Freesat?

Some programmes are audio described for people with sight problems, from soaps and dramas to children’s TV and films.

To access them, either press the Audio Description button (This can be found on the bottom right of your Freesat remote and is marked AD) on your set-top box or TV's remote control, or press the menu button, then follow the on-screen options until you reach those for language and subtitles.

Turning Audio Description on through the settings menu:

Press the home button on the remote.
Select the settings option and then press the OK button.
Select the Accessibility & Language option and press the OK button.
Please then select the audio description option and press the OK button.
Please then select the option on (it will be coloured purple if you are on it) please then press the OK button on the remote.
Please then select save and close and press the OK button on the remote.

In addition to Subtitles and Audio Description we also have another accessibility feature called High Contrast Mode, this is an accessibility feature that increases the picture contrast to make it easier for visually impaired viewers to read text on screen.

Turning High Contrast mode on through the settings menu:

Press the home button on the remote.
Select the settings option and then press the OK button.
Select the Accessibility & Language option and press the OK button.
Please then select the high contrast mode option and press the OK button.
Please then select the option on (it will be coloured purple if you are on it) please then press the OK button on the remote.
Please then select save and close and press the OK button on the remote.

How can I adjust Lip Sync?

Connecting external speakers to your Freesat Box can cause the sound to fall slightly out of sync.

If this happens go to Settings, select Picture & Sound and then Lip Sync where you can change the setting to realign the audio to your picture.

Why are Subtitles and Audio Description only available on some channels/programmes?

These features are managed by individual channels so unfortunately we cannot control or guarantee which channels or programmes have subtitles or audio description.
