Freesat is a joint venture between the BBC and ITV, providing UK customers with over 200 TV and radio channels, as well as On Demand and SVOD services. We reach over 2 million homes through a combination of set-top boxes and TV sets.

Role Purpose

The Content team are the custodians of Freesat’s tone of voice. The content they deliver aims to engage our customers and prospects and ensures we continue to promote our ethos of being “The Smart Choice for TV Lovers”.

Whether it is through website content, emails, editorially-led recommendations or our social media platforms, the Content team are across most of our touchpoints – they surface and celebrate the best of free to air TV as well as all the great content our platform delivers through various VOD services.

The team also manage the relationships with all our channel partners, ensuring we promote the best of their content in a fun, engaging and informative way that keeps our customers happy with the Freesat service.

Key responsibilities

The Content & Editorial Executive will work with the Head of Digital & Content to deliver great content through a variety of touchpoints and in a multitude of formats. Some of the key duties of the Content & Editorial Executive include:

  • Supporting the Head of Digital & Content in the delivery of our editorially-led recommendations service (Showcase)

  • Managing the performance of our recommendations service and devising a plan for improving engagements

  • Producing relevant and optimised content for the website

  • Supporting the Head of Digital & Content in expanding the types of content we deliver

  • Maintaining an editorial calendar of activity

  • Managing the relationship with some of our channels, devising activity and reporting back on the results from any campaign undertaken

  • Managing Freesat’s social media platforms and looking for ways to derive even greater engagement from our base

  • Supporting the Customer Relationship and Engagement Manager in the selection of the right programmes (across a variety of genres) to promote in our emails, as well as write email copy as required

  • Writing briefs to ensure any campaign development reflects requirements to be used within our owned channels

People you’ll need to work with:

  • Customer Marketing Team – to ensure any campaigns are maximised across all touchpoints, as well as producing editorially-led email copy

  • Operational Team – to develop Showcase further

  • Content Partnership Team – providing support by ensuring we craft plans to promote our channel partners’ best offering

Skills and Expertise


  • Demonstrable editorial experience

  • Experience of digital technologies used in online publishing

  • Experience in managing social platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and automation tools (Sprout Social)

  • Development of content from ideation through to delivery

  • Able to derive insight and action from data

  • Ability to work in a team-based environment

  • Appreciation and understanding customer facing editorial products

  • Demonstrable passion for TV, film and radio

  • Working knowledge of Photoshop and/or Canva

  • Google Analytics user, or a desire to learn

  • Understanding of SEO best practise, or a desire to learn

Required skills:

  • Ability to work quickly and accurately proofread and manage assets

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Highly organised with the ability to manage self
